Dr. Mark Berman injects SVF to the Ommaya reservoir – this is a port under the scalp that connects directly to the ventricle to deliver cells directly to the Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) during a procedure at his Beverly Hills office, Feb. 4, 2016. Dr. Mark Berman in his Beverly Hills office performing a procedure which isolates a patient’s stem cells after a mini-liposuction procedure. The doctor then injects the isolated stem cells directly into the patient. The procedure done today was for a patient who, after a car accident 14 years ago, became a quadriplegic. Dr. Berman is hoping using her stem cells in this way will increase her mobility and rebuild her spinal cord. He is not charging her for the procedures since he is not positive they will work. He hopes they will. The patient says her core strength has improved, along with mobility in her hands.

“Back in 2012, Berman cofounded a chain of clinics called the Cell Surgical Network®. He says he and other physicians in the network have conducted some 5,000 stem cell treatments — including on himself and his wife — for conditions such as arthritis and hip, back and joint pain. He called the draft regulations arbitrary and hypocritical. –Usha Lee McFarling, Writer
